A diorite body spread over an areaof 10 sq km, with proto-orbicular and orbicular structures is recorded for the first time near Rapur, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. It occurs within the post-tectonic granitoids emplaced along the thrust zone between Nellore Schist Belt and the Proterozoic Cuddapah Basin. It is 'proto-orbicular' in nature with concentric rims of felsics and mafics, having radial and tangential arrangement of plagioclase and biotite respectively. Orbicules are of both crystallothrausmatic and esboitic. The core and matrix are by and Iarge similar in composition. Graphic sand granophyric textures point to igneous origin of the orbicular diorite and the associated granitoids. Keywords

Two dykes of albitite intruding a trondhjemite-A-type granite suite in the Prakasam alkaline province in Andhra Pradesh contain >90% modal plagioclase (albite), and accessory quantities of hornblende, apatite, sphene, anatase and opaque ores. The normative 100·Ab/(Ab + An) is 96 to 100, indicating pure albitic nature of the plagioclase. A two-stage 'branching' differentiation is suggested for this petrological association. Keywords
